Classes we offer at HAPA
Classes at HAPA are a fantastic way for children to express themselves. We want our students to feel free, have fun, make memories, grow friendships and blossom in confidence and in talent.
Musical Theatre
We offer Musical Theatre from 4 years old.
Our students learn dance and singing technique, acting and performance skills whilst working towards a full production. Past productions have included Annie, Joseph & the technicolour dream coat, Legally Blonde to name but a few.
These classes also develop confidence and stage presence.
Ballet
Starting from 3 years old we offer classes under our Preschool Programme.
These classes focus on Rhythms, basic ballet technique and role play.
From school age students practise the ISTD vocational Syllabi, with an option to take examinations when they are ready.
Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines, promoting good posture and requiring a high level of strength and technique.
Modern
Starting from school age students will practise the ISTD vocational Syllabi with the option to take exams when the individual is ready.
We study the syllabus but incorporate jazz technique within the class, students will learn to turn, kick and leap whilst also focussing on conditioning, cardio and strengthening the entire body.
Modern Theatre dance is generally the genre typically seen in west end productions and musicals.
Tap
Starting from 3 years old we offer classes under our Preschool Programme followed at school age by learning the ISTD vocational Syllabi with the option to take exams.
In a modern style students learn to beat with their feet. These lessons encourage children to develop their rhythmic quality whilst maintaining good posture.
These lessons are loads of fun with plenty of noise!
Choir
We offer choir lesson for children from 12 years of age through to adults.
Our choir lessons will help students develop their technique, by learning correct breathing, diction, harmonizing, tuning and tone. In a fun and friendly atmosphere, we work towards concerts and big event performances, which have included young voices, and the VIAM.
Private Singing Lessons are also available for children ages 6 and above under the tuition of Rachael Willcox.
Street Dance
We offer our street classes from 2 years of age under our Preschool Programme moving forward from school.
A fun class for students to learn steps and techniques and put them together in a routine. A chance to learn different styles such as Hip Hop & Locking.
Encouraging each student’s personal style and ideas.
Jazz Technique
Our jazz technique class is aimed at secondary school children from 11 years +.
This class introduces the principle and skills in the fundaments of jazz dance. Emphasizes and develops correct body alignment, coordination, strength, flexibility, rhythm, and movement awareness. We include jazz dance vocabulary and a jazz dance combination.
Drama
We offer drama lessons from 6 years old.
Our drama classes aim to develop drama skills and explore the student’s imaginative side. Students are given the opportunity to question the world around them and consider points of view from others using an array of stimuli. Social and interactive life skills will be developed, learning to work independently, in pairs and groups. We work on developing in depth characters and learning empathy through role pay and improvisation.
Our older students will explore themes and issues relevant in today’s society using different styles of drama. They will also get the opportunity to learn different job roles in the theatre and build on their theatrical knowledge.

Lamda is a world leading conservatoire and globally recognised awarding body, we are proud to offer private exam lessons at HAPA in Speech & communication, performance & Musical Theatre.
These exams and lessons are designed to build confidence.
My daughter has been dancing at HAPA since the day it opened. During this time she gained a passion for dance and grown in confidence. I attribute this progress to the excellent teaching by Miss Jayne and the HAPA team.
Thank you for being such an amazing team! Our girls love attending HAPA and it’s been great to have such good virtual content for such practical subjects. It’ll be amazing when we can return to in person lessons and watch shows at the theatre but in the meantime, you guys are doing a fab job!
